Provider Spotlight: Permalink Support Services

What happens when an NDIS participant can’t find suitable housing? Tragically, often the only choices are sleeping on the street or going to the nearest hospital.

Permalink Support Services is committed to changing that. Their goal is to keep vulnerable participants off the streets by sourcing suitable housing.

We spoke to the team to learn more about the essential work they do.

Tell us in a few words about your organisation…

Our role and goal here at Permalink is to fill the gap where NDIS participants find themselves coming to an end of lease.

These participants usually don’t have time to wait on the Victorian Housing Register for eight to ten years for a property, they’re unwilling to go to a homeless shelter due to the environment being very violent and substance affected, and they’re unable to find a private property to rent that corresponds to their budget.

This leaves them with their last options which are either sleeping on the streets or going to the nearest hospital until they’re able to find housing.

The thought of an NDIS participant having to go to a homeless shelter or live on the streets is heartbreaking. The majority of NDIS who find themselves in a similar circumstance I’ve described above are already vulnerable and fragile.

We do all we can to navigate and secure properties for NDIS participants who need them most.

What services do you offer?

Our Private Leasing Assistance includes but is by no means limited to:

  • Supporting NDIS participants to apply for private leasing for independent living within their pension affordability.

  • Assisting with accommodation budgeting, attending weekly inspections and completing property applications via realesestate.com.au.

  • Applying for rent assistance through Centrelink.

  • Applying for rent in advance through Launch Housing or Unison.

  • Applying for a bond loan through DHHS.

  • Receiving a furniture voucher from Salvos.

  • Assisting with moving home and ongoing lease management.

Our Public Housing and Community Housing Assistance includes:

  • Assistance to complete and update the Victorian Housing Register Forms.

  • Assistance to communicate and apply for available community housing throughout Melbourne, Victoria.

What is your organisation’s difference?

We build relationships with real estate agents and landlords to give our participants the highest possible chance of securing properties sooner rather than later.

At Permalink Housing, we can apply to all Private Housing, Public Housing and Supported Living (SIL, SDA & SRS) options.

To help participants from start to finish, the allocated Housing Manager covers everything until the participant is secure and safe in their new home.

Usually, a participant is allocated to one of our Housing Managers within a week.
