A deep dive on Core Supports
As an NDIS participant, it’s important to use your funding in ways that support you in reaching your goals.
To make the most of your NDIS funding, it’s essential to understand the different funding categories and how each can be used.
The Core Supports budget is the most flexible funding category enabling you to use the funds allocated in the ways that will benefit you the most. Let’s take a closer look at Core Supports and how you can get the most out of them.
The three support budgets in your plan
There are three main budget types funded by the NDIS that may be included in your plan.
These are:
- Core Supports budget
- Capacity Building Supports budget
- Capital Supports budget
What does the Core Supports budget cover?
The Core Supports budget covers things related to daily living and everyday activities. These should also be related to goals in your plan.
Core Supports include four categories:
- Daily activities
- Consumables
- Assistance with social and community participation
- Transport
How does the Core Supports budget work?
Core Supports is the most flexible funding category––usually, you’re able to move funds around to cover the various categories as needed.
This provides more freedom than the other categories to ensure you’re covered throughout the plan.
Do keep in mind, though, that all supports must relate to a goal in your NDIS plan, and should be considered ‘reasonable and necessary’.
What are examples of Core Supports?
Core Supports cover many activities, consumables, and tasks related to daily living.
This includes things like:
- Assistance with meals
- Help with house cleaning
- Low-cost assistive technology
- Assistance with self-care
- Necessary transport
- Funding for community activities
