Is it funded? The updated rules on NDIS supports and our role as your plan manager

At myAutonomy, it’s our goal to help you make the most of your plan to reach your goals and improve your quality of life.

We’re committed to helping you get the right supports for you, while making sure that your NDIS invoices will be approved by the NDIA. This ensures you have the peace of mind to know that your funding will cover your needs.

Recently, the government announced some key changes to the NDIS that will impact everyone. Here’s what you need to know.

The NDIA updates on NDIS supports

As of October 3rd 2024, participants can only spend NDIS funds specifically on what are called “NDIS supports”.

NDIS supports, according to the NDIA, are only those on an approved list of supports––not just any support you might previously have claimed.

Participants can only spend their funding on the supports listed and nothing else.

Keep in mind: as a plan provider we must adhere to all NDIA rules and regulations. We make sure that any support you’re claiming for fits the approved list to ensure that your invoices will be approved and you won’t have any nasty surprises down the line––such as having to pay back funds later.

What’s now considered an NDIS support?

The NDIS support definition is somewhat more limited than it used to be, encompassing only items specifically listed.

Some examples of NDIS supports include:

  • Assistance to access and maintain employment or higher education

  • Assistance with daily life tasks in a group or shared living arrangement

  • Assistive equipment for recreation

  • Assistive products for personal care and safety

  • Community nursing care

  • Communication and information equipment

  • Development of daily care and life skills

What’s not an NDIS support?

Under the new law, the NDIS will not provide funding for things that are not explicitly listed as on the approved list.

That means some things that might previously have been funded are now not considered supports.

Things that are not NDIS supports include:

  • Standard furniture

  • Rent and groceries

  • Non-prescription medicines

  • Travel and vacation-related costs

  • Alternative and complementary therapies

  • Wellness and coaching

What will be the impact of these changes?

These NDIA changes will likely have an impact on most participants. But do keep in mind, at myAutonomy, we’re here to support you and answer questions as changes happen.

Our goal is to ensure you can keep getting the most out of your plan while maintaining the peace of mind that your invoices are approved and legitimate under the NDIA regulations.

If you’re curious about how the changes will affect your funding, it’s best to chat with your Support Coordinator. They can help you explore how the changes will impact your existing supports and any agreements you have in place. As your plan manager, we’re also here to support the transition.

Staying up-to-date

As part of the law change, the NDIS is making gradual additional changes. Regularly checking the NDIS website or setting a Google alert for NDIS news can help ensure you stay abreast of changes as they happen.

myAutonomy is also providing regular updates to ensure you understand the changes as they happen.
