NDIS changes: what is and isn’t an NDIS support
Recently, the government announced some key changes to the NDIS that will impact all participants.
We know that change can be challenging, and navigating the NDIS isn’t always easy. Fortunately, we’re here to simplify the process to help you keep making the most of your plan.
So, what’s changed?
Key changes you need to know
As of October 3rd, participants can only spend NDIS funds on NDIS supports.
Importantly, there’s also a new definition for NDIS supports.
Funding is now only available for those on an approved list of NDIS supports. Participants can only spend their funding on the supports listed and nothing else.
You can find a complete list of NDIS supports here.
As part of the law change, we’re aware that the NDIS is making gradual additional changes. To stay up to date, we recommend checking in on the NDIS website. You could also set up a Google alert for NDIS news to stay abreast of updates as they happen. But don’t fret, at myAutonomy, we’re here to support you and answer questions as changes happen.
What is an NDIS support?
Some of the areas that are considered NDIS supports include:
- Assistance to access and maintain employment or higher education
- Assistance with daily life tasks in a group or shared living arrangement
- Assistive equipment for recreation
- Assistive products for personal care and safety
- Community nursing care
- Communication and information equipment
- Development of daily care and life skills
What is not an NDIS support?
Under the new law, the NDIS will not provide funding for things that are not explicitly listed as on the approved list.
Some of the areas that aren’t considered NDIS supports include:
- Rent and groceries
- Standard furniture
- Non-prescription medicines
- Travel and vacation-related costs
- Alternative and complementary therapies
- Wellness and coaching
- Education and tuition fees
How will you be impacted?
The changes are likely to impact most NDIS participants.
If you’re curious about how the changes will affect your funding, it’s best to discuss with either your Support Coordinator or us, your plan manager. They can help you explore how the changes will impact your existing supports and any agreements you have in place.
We’re here to support the transition
At myAutonomy, we know these changes can cause stress and confusion. We’re here to help ensure the transition is smooth.
We can offer advice about whether supports you use will continue to be funded by the NDIS and help you make the most of your plan.
