How to get the most out of your NDIS plan
Gaining access to an NDIS plan can be critical for improving your health, independence, and quality of life. The right NDIS plan can also ensure you get the right supports for you.
If, however, you aren’t sure how to make the most of your plan, you may not get the essential benefits, or make the most of your NDIS plan.
Our trusty guide will help you ensure that you’re doing what you can to have a plan that works for you.
Finding better supports
All NDIS plans revolve around goals. Setting those goals, then, and choosing supports that will help you achieve those goals, is essential.
The right supports shouldn’t be too general but should relate specifically to your goals. To ensure this is happening, it can be helpful to really look and your goals and then consider which supports will best help you to achieve them.
If learning to drive, for example, is a goal in your plan, an occupational therapist – among other supports – may be essential to help achieve that goal. If learning to prepare meals on your own is a goal, then having personal care supports focussed on that goal will be important.
Use your funding wisely
Within your NDIS plan, there are likely various funding categories. To really make the most of the plan, and gain access to essential supports, it’s important to use your funding in meaningful ways from all of the categories.
If you leave funds underspent in one or more categories, it may impact the funding you gain in the future.
If you’re not using your funds, it’s also one indicator that you’re not moving towards the goals in the plan. Or that you don’t have sufficient supports to boost your quality of life.
To ensure you’re getting the most out of your funding, take a look at your goals, and consider key supports that may be missing that could help you achieve those goals.

Check your plan
We know that dealing with finances can be a little daunting. But, we do recommend regularly taking a look at your plan to see how your budget is tracking, to keep track of your goals, and to reassess your supports.
Fortunately, if you’re with myAutonomy, we help you keep track of budgeting to ensure you’re always getting the best of your plan. You can also use the Careview App to help you stay in touch with your budget and we’ll send monthly statements so that you can see what’s been paid from your plan in that month.
