My Diffability: a provider with a difference
In society, it’s important for every person to be able to contribute and be accepted by the wider community. We’re huge fans of My Diffability, not just because they’re a great niche provider, but because at their core they are about different abilities being celebrated.
My Diffability is a registered NDIS supplier of sensory toys, products, information, and other resources. Founded in 2011 by a speech pathologist, Renee, and occupational therapist, Tarryn, the company is dedicated to providing products for people of all abilities.
My Diffability focuses on differences, not as restrictions/disabilities, but as opportunities to contribute uniquely to our world. They show how we can embrace, nurture, and celebrate diversity in our society.
Products for benefit
At My Diffability, the aim is simple: to provide a helpful and supportive online resource for people experiencing disability. The organisation does so by providing affordable resources in the form of toys, clothing, and other helpful products, alongside free advice for the benefit of the community.
They sell a range of products within many categories including sensory, motor skills and social skills to provide support, assistance, learning, and fun. Ultimately, the products can boost independence, provide comfort, and improve the quality of life for people living with disability and their families.
Therapy putty, for example, can facilitate attention and concentration for those inclined to fidget. Noise protection headphones can be helpful for children who find loud environments threatening. A Peapod station is shaped to provide calming pressure for a child requiring reassurance and self-regulation. Educational resources can be useful for learning about, and understanding differences. The perfect way to use funding in low-cost assistive technology.
Founders with a difference
Founders Renee and Tarryn are passionate about making a difference. Renee is an experienced speech pathologist with deep experience across a range of organisations. She has a special interest in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), worked as an Early Intervention Specialist within autism-specific services and was involved in an initiative in Tajikistan diagnosing children with ASD for the first time. Her experience provides key understanding to educate others.
Having worked in paediatrics in a range of sectors, Tarryn employs specialised therapy models to achieve the best possible outcomes with families. Tarryn’s experience in providing therapy for children with motor difficulties, sensory processing difficulties, attention and concentration difficulties among others, mean she’s in the perfect position to provide support, knowledge and products to the wider community.
Together, Renee and Tarryn are redefining what it means to have a disability by focusing on difference and possibility.
